Socio-demographic characteristics, lifestyles and expectations from the military profession of the Military Academy cadets

Summary/Abstract: Due to increasing global divisions and the presence of different forms of war, accompanied by the armament race, the military profession is once again becoming the center of attention. The aim of this paper is to examine the values of the future officers operationalized through lifestyles and their expectations in relation to the military profession. The research was conducted on the sample of 186 cadets of the Military Academy. Independent variables were gender, age group, place of origin, as well as the type of secondary school, while dependent variables were lifestyles and expectations from the military profession. The results show that the cadets most highly value the family-sentimental lifestyle, while they expect that the military profession will ensure making lifelong friendships and that the completed secondary school is the main source of differences in the examined variables. By studying the obtained results, it may be concluded that the cadets’ values are modified under the influence of socio-demographic factors, as well as the choice of the military profession and the length of their stay at the Military Academy.
