Summary/Abstract: While there are many reports in the literature on the risks in the probation profession, there is an apparent gap in research on the level of their personal resources. The aim of the study undertaken was to analyse the sense of stress and coping levels, self-efficacy and life satisfaction of probation officers, taking into account the impact of sociodemographic and organisational variables. The study group consisted of a total of 133 probation officers of the criminal and family divisions aged 32-62, with the mean age being 46 years (M = 45.8 SD = 1.03). The PSS-10 Perceived Stress Scale by Cohen et al., the Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) by Schwarzer and Jerusalem and the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) by Diener et al. were used. The results of our own study showed that probation officers in general experience average levels of stress and life satisfaction and a high sense of self-efficacy. Differential results were obtained due to variables such as age and length of service. Probation officers in early middle age (up to 45 years of age) had a statistically significantly higher sense of efficacy than respondents in late middle age (over 46 years of age). Furthermore, respondents with up to 20 years of seniority had higher levels of efficacy and life satisfaction than probation officers with more than 20 years of seniority. The results obtained may form the basis for further research aimed at assessing the personal resources of probation officers experiencing a range of professional risks.
