Summary/Abstract: This study examines the presence of Hungarian folk children’s games in school education and the role of teachers in the Hungarian community of Vojvodina over the past half century. The research is based on the recognition that, from the last decades of the twentieth century onward, schools have become one of the principal arenas for the transmission of folk culture, with teachers playing a particularly important role in this process. The aim of the study is to explore how folk children’s games have been incorporated into both curricular and extracurricular educational practices, with special focus on Bečej and the area surrounding it. The analysis is based on a questionnaire survey conducted in 2021 and on in-depth interviews carried out in 2023. The findings indicate that the preservation and pedagogical application of folk children’s games depend to a significant extent on the educational environment and on teachers’ commitment. The study contributes to a better understanding of the relationship between folklore and pedagogy, as well as of school-based forms of cultural transmission within a Hungarian community in Vojvodina.
