Summary/Abstract: Halfway through the COVID-19 pandemic, Scottish media consumers surveyed by Ofcom highlighted their passion for podcasting, with more Scots interested in non-UK outputs than their contemporaries south of the border in England (Ofcom 2022). Two years on with the pandemic restrictions lifted across the UK, two out of three Britons confirmed that they were podcast listeners with rising levels of interest throughout 2021 with 42 million monthly listeners by 2024 (Edison, Podcast Metrics UK 2024). In 2025, Scotland with its own national identity out with the UK and its own passion for sports has seen similar trends for podcast creation and production at a more grassroots level with Glasgow and Edinburgh as creative hubs (Podbible 2021).This study will analyse where the growth areas are and evaluate why Scotland has seen unparalleled growth in the digital audio space surrounding sports teams and predominately football clubs over the global pandemic and isolate where current trends point to for the industry in the years ahead (Hunter 2024).
