The Role of 3D Printing in the Educational Process and the Lives of Visually Impaired Children and Adults

Summary/Abstract: This paper discusses the 3D printing as a possibility to support the teaching and everyday life of individuals with visual impairments. A short information is provided about a national project funded by Bulgarian National Science Fund, run by the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies of Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the department of Special Education at the Faculty of Educational Studies and the Arts of Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski. The paper presents the draft of the check-list developed for testing the 3D models printed with 3D methods in Module 1 of the project – objects with teaching value. The check-list is tested with one visually impaired student from 12th school grade and one adult with visual impairment and the preliminary results are reported.
