Social Activities in Provision of Services to Unemployed Persons as an Element of Active Labor Market Policy

Summary/Abstract: Unemployment protection must ensure the necessary level of compensation for persons who have lost their jobs or are prevented from exercising their right to work and to provide the necessary conditions for their faster inclusion in the labor market. This requires the operation of two related and complementary elements of the nature of subsystems: unemployment insurance and payment of cash benefits as part of the social security system and the implementation of an active employment promotion policy. The indicated point of view implies considering the unemployment protection system as built up of two components and the social activities implemented within them, which together provide financial support to persons who have lost their jobs for a certain period and at the same time contribute to better employment and the realization of the qualities and capabilities of the workforce. The article focuses on the scope and specific content of social activities oriented towards the implementation of an active labor market policy and in the aspect of their importance as an important direction of social work. Social activities related to the implementation of mediation, aimed at unemployed persons and employers, are examined. The main challenges facing social work in the field of employment and reducing unemployment are systematized and current guidelines for the development of social activities in a direction that contributes to the implementation of an active labor market policy are formulated.
