Summary/Abstract: This article examines the parameters and contextual framework of the sole foreword authored by Władysław Reymont. The foreword served as an introduction to the collection of impressionistic prose miniatures 'Wie ich es sehe' ('Jak ja to widzę') by Peter Altenberg (1904), translated by Aurelia Reymontowa. Functioning as a paratext, the foreword is notably critical and dismissive of the Vienna writer’s work, provoking a wave of severe criticism despite prior generally positive responses to Altenberg’s oeuvre. Rather than performing a conventional presentational or endorsing role, Reymont’s introduction operates as an ironic literary miniature, marked by sharp and incisive wit. The article further explores possible motivations underlying the author’s stance in the foreword, his awareness of the poetics of this literary form, and the linguistic and stylistic construction of the text.
