Integration of Image and Text as a Means for Developing Visual Literacy and Critical Thinking

Summary/Abstract: This report examines the importance of integrating image and text in art education in grades 5, 6 and 7 of Bulgarian public schools. The main goal is to analyze how this interaction develops visual literacy and critical thinking in students. The report examines theoretical foundations of visual literacy, presents specific methodological approaches for integrating image and text, and analyzes the benefits of their application. The main conclusions show that the systematic combination of visual and verbal elements improves the skills of analysis, interpretation and evaluation of visual information, stimulates independent thinking and forms the ability to argue. It is recommended to increase the implementation of interdisciplinary tasks and increase the methodological training of teachers in this direction.
