Summary/Abstract: The Professional Folklore Ensemble “Strandzha” is among the leading cultural institutions in Bulgaria dedicated to the preservation, revitalisation, and stage interpretation of authentic Bulgarian folklore. Established in 1965 in Burgas, the ensemble draws its artistic identity from the rich traditions of the Strandzha region—one of the most emblematic centres of Bulgarian folk heritage. The aim of this report is to provide a comprehensive overview of the institutional development, repertoire evolution, and artistic practices of PFE “Strandzha,” analysing its contributions to the collection, preservation, arrangement, stage adaptation, and dissemination of folk music, dances, rituals, and oral tradition from Southeastern Bulgaria. The study examines the ensemble’s structure, stylistic characteristics, and key creative figures, as well as its international activity, awards, and significance as a cultural mediator and carrier of identity. The report highlights the ensemble’s sustained role in safeguarding traditional folklore practices while adapting them to the contemporary stage, thereby affirming “Strandzha” as a major custodian of Bulgaria’s national cultural heritage.
