Summary/Abstract: This article examines the various possibilities for forming concepts of geometric shapes and figures in preschool children through the application of alternative methods – sewing and tangrams. The research is based on contemporary pedagogical approaches to learning through play, sensory-active perception, and culturally-based education. The hidden symbolism and folk meaning of Bulgarian folk stitches are used as an activator for recreating visual models with the aim of recognizing and naming geometric shapes and figures. The tangram puzzles, in turn, are used as a means to stimulate logical thinking, spatial orientation, and constructive imagination. The conclusion emphasizes the positive contribution of applying an interdisciplinary approach between the fields of visual arts, constructive technologies, and mathematics in shaping elementary concepts of geometric figures and shapes in 5-7-year-old children.
