Summary/Abstract: The role of women in operating anti-aircraft weapons in the Czechoslovak military unit in the Soviet Union is a topic that has not yet been adequately addressed in domestic historiography. Like men, women joined the forming army from 1942 onwards, most of them after being released from corrective labor camps. The largest proportion of liberated volunteers in the first half of 1943 consisted of young women of Ruthenian nationality. Among the bravest were those who served on the front line in anti-aircraft units of the 1st Czechoslovak Independent Brigade. The fates of several of them are presented based on NKVD investigation files and a number of other sources from Czech and foreign archives.
