Summary/Abstract: The study of the connections between Rome, China, and India in antiquity is a complex problem that has been the subject of discussion in historiography for more than a century. The main questions concern how well the power elites in the two empires understand each other. What is the level of trade contacts between them, and what role do intermediaries play in this trade? Do the two empires pursue a purposeful state policy regarding trade and intermediaries, or does it develop largely chaotically? In this context, the emphasis should be on the influence of Parthia, the Sassanids, India, and the Huns on these processes over the centuries.
