Summary/Abstract: Under the Yoke, a novel by Ivan Vazov, is a classic of Bulgarian literature that reflects the national liberation movement. Set against the historical backdrop of the “April Uprising” in the 1870s, when the Bulgarian people rose against Ottoman rule, the novel vividly portrays the struggle of a group of ordinary revolutionaries, creating a national epic that blends historical authenticity with literary appeal. This paper analyzes three dimensions: the restoration and reconstruction of historical narration, the multidimensional portrayal of revolutionary figures, and the symbolic connotations and thematic expression of the “yoke” imagery. It explores how the work uses individual fates to reflect the history of national resistance, how it highlights the tenacity of human nature and the awakening of national spirit in the narrative of suffering, and how it further reveals the landmark significance of Under the Yoke within the system of Bulgarian national literature, as well as its enlightenment for contemporary readers in understanding national liberation and the value of human nature.
