Summary/Abstract: This paper examines optical texts produced and presented using a typewriter in Slovak literature of the 1960s. It defines the concept of the typewriter text and links it to intermedia trends in the literature of the period, broadly represented by optical texts, visual poetry, and concrete poetry. It summarises typewriter poetry by Czech authors published in contemporary Slovak literary periodicals and provides a detailed overview of the programme booklet for the Slovak premiere of Václav Havel’s play Zahradní slavnost [The garden party] (1963), featuring Havel’s typograms (1964). It analyses selected typewriter texts by Slovak authors, including Milan Kenda, Vladimír Ondrúš, and Pavol Suržin, published in periodicals. It also examines Milan Adamčiak’s relationship to the typewriter as a medium and analyses one example from his work, the asemantic typewriter poem “!?!!!” from the cycle Bipoems (1969).
