Summary/Abstract: In the spring of 1812, El Verdadero Peruano emerged as a liberal Fidelista publication in the context of freedom of the press sponsored by the Constitution of Cádiz. This newspaper strongly criticized the war of independence in Latin America. This research analyzes the political discourse of this publication based on three identified thematic axes: the importance of the Constitution of 1812, the new political concepts coined in this context, and the counterrevolutionary war in Upper Peru.
