Summary/Abstract: Stevan Popović, a pharmacist (1887–1963), during his schooling in Hungarianlanguage gymnasiums did not succumb to Hungarian influences. His youthful mischief and refusal to accept Hungarian national symbols point to a strong character and a firm Serbian national consciousness. Stevan Popović had a keen awareness of social circumstances, as well as of the condition of the Serbian national community in Baja (today in Hungary), and in Timișoara and Cluj (today in Romania).
