Summary/Abstract: This account is drawn from a series of recordings that make up the autobiography of Dušano, a settled Gypsy from the Yugoslav Banat. Dušano is now in his sixties. The specific Gypsy group to which he belongs is not precisely defined; Dušano describes himself as *rom banatosko* ("Banat Gypsy"), and his group appears to be significantly intermixed with the region's other ethnic groups, particularly the Hungarian and German minorities. Dušano speaks a "Vlax" dialect similar to the Kalderash dialect heard in France.
