Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the work of Juraj Furdík, a prominent figure of Slovak linguistics in the 21st century. His concept of word-formation is based on the principle of word-formation motivation and other aspects – word-formation functions, the word-formation system, the onomasiological nature of word-formation, and cross-linguistic aspects of word-formation. In the second part, the fundamental aspects of the concept of lexical motivation are introduced, i.e. typology, relations, lexical dynamics, the role of word-formation within lexical motivation, didactic aspects of lexical motivation. The aim of the paper is not merely to summarize and reflect on Furdík’s approach to word-formation and lexicology. A follow-up research in this area is also highlighted, thereby emphasizing the inspirational potential of J. Furdík’s work.
