Summary/Abstract: The theme of rural electrification during the First Republic was widely reflected in filmmaking. In contrast to the period of World War II and the subsequent post-war recovery, when the emphasis was primarily on saving energy resources, in the 1920s and 1930s, state institutions and other organizations made intensive efforts to maximize the electrification and automation of processes related to rural areas. A typical example was the film Electricity in the Service of the Countryside (Svatopluk Innemann, 1928), which unfortunately has not survived in its full length (footage). The significance of the film is evidenced by several facts, such as the participation of famous filmmakers (S. Innemann, V. Vích, K. Dodal, T. Pištěk and others) or the film‘s colorization using the so-called tinting technique. The film was commissioned by the Central Union of Economic Cooperatives with financial participation from the Power Plant Unions. The film was produced by Elekta-Journal, a leading producer of promotional films inthe First Republic. The aim of the article is to present the individual mechanisms and functionsof the film industry in the specific genre of agricultural films and to familiarize readers withthe title Electricity in the Service of the Countryside, both from a filmographic and historicalperspective, and from the technical aspects of the screened film material.
