Summary/Abstract: This article examines the ways in which the stage adaptation of Hugo’s novel reconfigures the narrative structure, character construction, and central thematic concerns of the original work. Employing a comparative analytical framework, the study investigates the relationship between the novel and its musical adaptation, emphasizing how the theatrical and musical medium facilitates a reinterpretation of the source text. Particular attention is given to the transformative impact of a canonical literary work on one of the longest-running musical productions worldwide, highlighting the dynamics of adaptation across genres and artistic forms.
