The impact of the method of the selection of diagnostic variables on the result of linear ordering on the example of ranking of Universities in Poland

Summary/Abstract: This article presents the analysis of the impact of the method of the selection of diagnostic variables on the result of linear ordering. Based on data from the ranking 2012 by the ,,Perspektywy” and ,,Rzeczpospolita”, using different combinations of criterion variables, the university rankings were constructed. The following method and tools were used in this research: the coefficient of variation, method of inverse correlation matrix, Hellwig method and its modification, factor analysis, cluster analysis and method of center of gravity. Finally, the Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient was calculated.
