Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to present the process of digitising part of the scientific archive of the Regional History Museum—Sofia, consisting of archaeological documentation. This documentation is related to excavations conducted in Sofia over the past 50 years and has been compiled as a separate supplement to the museum’s larger scientific collection. The article outlines the development of a “proto” digital archive and the steps taken to modernise paper-based collections rich in information. Several successful examples resulting from the digitisation process are presented, along with the potential perspectives it opens. A brief overview is provided of the current state of so-called “digital archaeology”, with a particular focus on methods for digitising, storing, and preserving archaeological documentation.
