Summary/Abstract: This article examines phenomenology, ethnomethodology, and the concept of the social construction of reality as key approaches in the sociology of everyday life. The role of individual experience, intersubjectivity, and language in the construction of the social world is analysed. The relevant ideas of Edmund Husserl and Alfred Schutz regarding the “here-and-now” reality are presented, as well as those of Peter Berger and Thomas Luckmann concerning institutions and shared meanings. Also included are the core principles of Harold Garfinkel’s Ethnomethodology: indexicality, reflexivity, and documentation. Through the methodological contribution of Jack Douglas and ethnographic practices, such as participant observation, the importance of everyday interactions for understanding social order and cultural diversity is emphasised.
