Summary/Abstract: This paper examines social customs as a key mechanism for constructing and maintaining cultural identity within Bulgarian diasporas abroad. In the context of globalisation and dynamic migration processes, Bulgarian communities outside the homeland face diverse and unique challenges in their efforts to preserve cultural memory and traditions. The aim of this study is to identify and analyse the social customs that most significantly contribute to fostering a sense of belonging among Bulgarian communities, using the example of Bulgarians living in the United Kingdom. The research methodology includes desk research of academic sources and documents, as well as an analysis of the social customs practised by Bulgarian communities located in various regions of the UK. The study explores the practices and mechanisms through which Bulgarian traditions are passed on. The findings indicate that social customs serve as a key mechanism employed by Bulgarians in the United Kingdom to strengthen community cohesion and to preserve and transmit cultural identity to future generations.
