Summary/Abstract: The article covers three main topics: The first concerns the establishment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of Georgia and its activities aimed at establishing diplomatic relations with as many foreign countries as possible. The second topic discusses and clarifies the embassies and consulates that foreign states opened in Georgia. The third research topic focuses on identifying and specifying the Georgian diplomatic missions that existed abroad. The paper focuses on the extremely difficult geopolitical conditions under which the above-mentioned institutions were established – conditions created by Soviet Russia, which, compared to the old monarchical Russia, pursued even greater expansionist goals. The present article is the initial part of a broader research work. It is based on materials from 1918-1921 found in the press and scattered throughout scholarly literature. Its purpose is to collect and systematize these materials, with further research to continue through the study of archival sources. As the research shows, the young and still unrecognized Democratic Republic of Georgia managed to establish contact and diplomatic relations with many countries. Its independence was recognized de jure only on January 27, 1921 – just a few weeks before Georgia was invaded by Soviet Russia.
