Summary/Abstract: The presidential elections in the United States, at the end of last year, brought back to power a controversial candidate, Donald Trump. In the world of economic and political ideas, his installation in the White House reignited doctrinal discussions, similar to those at the beginning of Ronald Reagan’s presidency. Many experts wondered and still wonder whether President Trump will carry out a conservative or liberal ”revolution”, in the European sense of theterm, similar to those of four decades ago. The purpose of this article is to make a brief analysis of the expectations related to Trump’s new mandate and to compare these expectations with the discourse and the effective agenda of the Washington administration. The reality of the first ten months of government rather shows a serious doctrinal indifference of Donald Trump and an excessive concentration on the level of discourse and emotions. Therefore, the doctrinal foundation of Trump’s policies seems to be mercantilism, populism, founded on a seductive economic narrative, but lacking concrete effects in terms of practical economic policies.
