Summary/Abstract: Contemporary musical language is a mode of expression in which new ways are added to the traditional means. No matter how far composers soar on the wings of intellect, they do not leave behind the warmth of the heart, the expression of the living breath of life. Myriam Marbé's ritual is to search for and find a compositional idea that underscores a poetic part. Marbé brings to the foreground the connection of the Romanian musical folklore with certain important rituals such as birth, wedding, death, new year, etc. still preserved in some villages in Romania, archaic rituals from the pre-Christian era and adapted with time to the Orthodox-Byzantine religion. The careful refinement of her personal style prompted some reference works in Myriam Marbe's folklore-inspired pieces in the 1960s as the work "...de aducere aminte" for chorus and small orchestra after a popular work from the collection of Constantin Brăiloiu (1967) or "Ritual pentru setea pămantului" for 7 or 14 voices, responsorial choir, and percussion (1968). Her compositions were not only based on ritual, archaic myths, and folklore music, but were also inspired by European literature, forming a new and unmistakable musical language of their own.
