Summary/Abstract: I am convinced that the Balkan region forms a grouping that is invisible from a geographical point of view but very visible ideologically, in terms of a certain mentality, with the African, Latin American, and Asian regions, which explains the need for civic activism in the Balkans. The idea is as follows: it is the year 2025, but if a person is different, they must submit to a majority that still considers itself an authority. People belonging to minorities are still considered deviations from the so-called “norms,” sources of subversion with respect to the supposed “normality” of the majority, endangering, for example, the internal order of a country. Activism emerged as a form of public participation to which certain people devote their feelings, time, effort, and sometimes money to achieve positive change in human, social, environmental, or political issues. The objectives of activism involve the defense of human or environmental rights, as they are threatened or violated. Many activists are associated with non-governmental organizations, responding collectively to causes they consider unjust, such as discrimination against vulnerable groups or animal abuse, attempting to resolve them and treating those affected with respect and dignity.
