Summary/Abstract: Analyzing the Third Sonata for violin and piano "in Romanian popular character", op. 25 by Enescu, I identified a number of aspects of the national team, which refer especially to the popular melody, which I set out to present in this paper. I found these aspects particularly interesting in the context in which Enescu uses them in a completely original way in this sonata. For the beginning, I will define the concept of “national” that appears in Romanian music at the beginning of the 20th century, together with the second wave of manifestation of the National Schools, Enescu being the important representative of the Romanian National Music School. The paper will present aspects of the national that are related to both the compositional and interpretive side, given that the work addresses the two instruments: violin and piano, there are specific aspects of rhapsodic interpretation, ways of attack, instrumental effects for obtaining a “fiddle” sound, correlations with instruments from the traditional taraf made by original means that arouse interest.
