Summary/Abstract: Paulus Diaconus is, without a doubt, the greatest historian of the eighth century. Of Lombard origin (under the name Warnefrit, as he likes to emphasise in his Historia Langobardorum), he lived in Francia for a while. He was very active in the Palatine School, led by Alcuin, and made a significant contribution to the cultural reform initiated by Charlemagne. His original works include several poems, usually occasional. He is even attributed with the poem titled Ut queant laxis, whose first stanza served as the foundation for the naming of the musical notes (Guido of Arezzo, 995–1050). Among these poems, one addressed directly to the king himself, Verba tui famuli, appears particularly successful and striking due to its intent and sincerity. In the following lines, I intend to provide a Romanian translation of the poem, accompanied by a brief commentary and a contextualisation for its composition.
