Summary/Abstract: This study examines the integration of the Roma minority into the Hungarian education system from the political transition to the present day, with particular attention to the structural causes and reproduction of educational inequalities. The analysis is based on a comparison of assimilationist and multicultural models of integration, as well as on the theoretical framework of inclusive education. Drawing on secondary sources and applying an interdisciplinary approach, it explores the educational trajectories of Roma students and the various forms of segregation they experience. The study concludes that the current functioning of the education system is unable to effectively compensate for social disadvantages; moreover, through certain mechanisms, it contributes to their persistence. Therefore, reducing inequalities can only be achieved through complex, system-level policy interventions.
