Summary/Abstract: The ICJ Advisory Opinion of 23 July 2025 on States’ climate change obligations plays a major role in the international process of universal recognition of the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment. It synthesized and clarified the relationship between environmental protection and human rights in the context of international climate obligations, discreetly contributing to the recognition of the human right to the environment and stimulating existing concerns in the matter. As an expression of this fact and in continuation of the related developments, on March 17, 2026, the Human Rights Council recommended that states incorporate the conclusions of the opinion into national legal frameworks, opening up further evolutionary perspectives.
