Summary/Abstract: The article presents an analysis and evaluation of Agnieszka Piela’s monograph „Literatura źródłem związków frazeologicznych. Słownik“ (Katowice 2024), which explores literary sources of Polish phraseology. The study is grounded in the assumption that the phraseological inventory of a language functions not only as a linguistic system but also as a cultural archive reflecting collective experiences, value systems, and modes of conceptualizing reality. Within this framework, literature is approached as a significant – yet insufficiently systematized – source of phraseological motivation. The paper outlines the theoretical foundations of Piela’s work, particularly her understanding of motivation in phraseology and her view of literary texts as origins of stabilized multiword expressions that enter general use of language. Special attention is given to the terminological proposal introduced by the author, namely the concept of literaturyzm [‚literarism‘], defined as a linguistic unit derived from literary texts. Piela distinguishes between lexical literarisms (e g., eponyms) and phraseological literarisms, understood as multiword expressions that originate directly from literary works or allude to their content while functioning outside their original context in a stabilized formal and semantic shape. The article further discusses the classification criteria proposed in the monograph. These include formal typology (expressions, verbal phrases, and sentential units), range of distribution (international vs. national units), and a degree of phraseological status (strong vs. weak stabilization). Attention is also paid to the structure and functionality of the dictionary section, which contains 142 entries arranged alphabetically. Each entry comprises a definition, variant forms, illustrative contexts, lexicographical attestations, and an authorial commentary providing etymological and cultural-historical background. In conclusion, the monograph is presented as both a terminological systematization and a lexicographical contribution to the study of literary-motivated phraseological units in Polish. By combining theoretical reflection with detailed documentation, the work offers a coherent methodological framework and opens new perspectives for further research on the interaction between literary texts and the development of phraseology in general use of language.
