Summary/Abstract: In the final year of the First World War, the Allied Powers concluded various treaties to bring the war to an end with the defeated states. In this context, the Armistice of Mudros was signed with the Ottoman Empire, followed by the occupation of Anatolia. However, under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the Turkish nation launched the National Struggle and achieved significant military and political successes. In particular, the first regular army victory on the Western Front at the First Battle of İnönü substantially altered the Allied Powers’ perception of the National Struggle. In order to demonstrate that they now regarded the Government of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) as a legitimate interlocutor in their plans for Anatolia, the Allied Powers invited the TBMM to an international conference convened in London. Although the primary aim of the conference was to impose the provisions of the Treaty of Sèvres, this invitation constituted an important step toward the international recognition of the TBMM. At the London Conference, the Government of the TBMM was represented by a delegation headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Bekir Sami Bey, and composed of Cami Bey (Deputy of Aydın and representative in Italy), Hüsrev Bey (Deputy of Trabzon), Yunus Nadi Bey (Deputy of İzmir), Zekai Bey (Deputy of Adana), and several advisors. This study examines, in light of archival documents, the contributions of the members of the delegation representing the Government of the TBMM at the London Conference to Turkey’s political and diplomatic development.
