Summary/Abstract: This article explores the representation of male stereotypes in Polish Internet memes and their role in digital culture. The analysis was conducted due to the persistence of traditional and online stereotypes about men, which continue to shape social expectations and everyday perceptions. The study aims to identify recurring patterns in the depiction of men, examine how these stereotypes are humorously exaggerated, and explore the ways memes reflect societal norms regarding masculinity. A corpus of approximately 40 memes was analyzed, selected from the most popular Polish websites and social media platforms. Only memes portraying male figures or themes related to masculinity were considered. The analysis focused on recurring motifs, such as men exaggerating illness, changes before and after marriage, domestic ineptitude, pragmatic approaches to hygiene, gendered thinking, emotional restraint („boys don’t cry“), and efficiency in daily routines. The findings indicate that Polish Internet memes humorously amplify stereotypical notions of masculinity while simultaneously reinforcing normative expectations. Humor arises through exaggeration, contrasts between idealized and everyday male behavior, and ironic portrayals of stereotypical male traits. Memes serve not only as entertainment but also as tools to make social norms visible, offering subtle commentary on gender roles and societal expectations. This study demonstrates that Internet memes play a significant role in shaping perceptions of masculinity, maintaining traditional stereotypes, and contributing to the online dissemination of cultural norms. Understanding these mechanisms can support educational initiatives and efforts toward greater gender equality in digital spaces.
