Summary/Abstract: In an era when the advent of A.I. poses serious intellectual dilemmas and causes a kind of societal upheaval that only the Gutenberg press caused almost six centuries ago, ESP tutors must ponder upon the pros and cons of using this new, radical tool in teaching. Taking into consideration our students’ declared affinity for using A.I. instruments both for academic, professional purposes as well as personal ones, the authors of this study have investigated the needs, wants and perceptions that 1st year Law students have when using such powerful computational resources in their preparation for a career in the legal and judicial field. We have looked into the familiarity the young generation has with A.I. aids, their perception on how to use them for improving their Legal English acquisition, the limitations they envisage in such an approach and the impact these would have on critical thinking skills’ development. The results of our survey indicate that for ESP teachers, integrating A.I. technology in the Legal English course is a must nowadays and we need to seriously consider how and when to do that. However, there are clear limitations that even students perceive to exist, considering that a non-human intelligence cannot replace authentic human-led interactions and using one’s own natural intellect for processing information and acquiring new language skills is irreplaceable.
