Summary/Abstract: This paper analyses the discourse of the satirical magazine “Furnica” between 1918 and 1920, highlighting how satire, irony, and caricature reflect the political, economic, and social transformations of post-war Romania. The study explores how the publication constructs a critique of the political class, economic precariousness, and the moral crisis generated by World War I and the interwar modernization process. Through a close reading approach combined with quantitative analysis, the paper tracks the recurrence of specific topics, terms, and dominant public figures within the magazine's discourse. At the same time, the analysis reveals the publication's ambivalent character: on one hand, the subversive and anti-elitist function of its satire, and on the other, the persistence of conservative, nationalist, and misogynistic stances. The paper underscores the role of the humorous press as a relevant source for understanding the mentalities and social tensions in early interwar Romania.
