Summary/Abstract: Faculty appointment criteria in Turkey are frequently updated. However, there is a lack of comprehensive studies examining the effects of the new associate professorship requirements and the different scoring systems among universities. The primary purpose of the research is to examine the faculty appointment criteria in the field of Social, Human, and Administrative Sciences and to reveal the differences and similarities between universities. The research was conducted using the document analysis design, a qualitative research method. Accordingly, the current appointment guidelines of a total of 46 universities, including 23 research universities and 23 non-research institutions, were examined. The analysis results show that there is no homogeneous structure in faculty recruitment across universities. While research universities apply a qualitative elimination system, other universities follow a quantitative-oriented process. The adoption of independent scoring systems by different universities and the frequent change of criteria create serious uncertainty for candidates.
