Summary/Abstract: Driven by population growth, economic development, and industrialization, cities are expanding rapidly and transforming the natural areas surrounding them. In this transformation process, agricultural lands are under significant pressure from urban sprawl. The loss of agricultural lands not only leads to a decline in production but also poses significant risks in terms of food security, environmental sustainability, and rural development. The aim of this study is to systematically examine the effects of urban areas on agricultural lands at the national level and based on selected provinces. The research evaluated findings through a literature review, long-term data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), and Geographic Information Systems (GIS)-based literature; the effects of urban sprawl on agricultural production potential, soil quality, and socioeconomic structure were detailed. The analysis results reveal that over the past thirty years, total agricultural land areas and the amount of agricultural land per capita have declined dramatically, while the need for integrated land management and compact urban models has become increasingly urgent.
