Summary/Abstract: This article is part of a dossier devoted to reassessing Mircea Cărtărescu’s position within the Romanian literary canon and the international literary circuit. Focusing on the relationship between Cărtărescu and Bob Dylan, it explores the intersections between literature, popular music, and cultural circulation through the lens of postmodern hybridity and intermediality. Drawing on Cărtărescu’s theoretical reflections on the “empire of hybrids,” the article argues that the dialogue between high and popular culture constitutes a defining feature of both Dylan’s and Cărtărescu’s poetics. It traces the circulation of literary and musical forms across different media and cultural registers, showing how references to popular music function not merely as intertextual ornaments but as central components of Cărtărescu’s aesthetic project. By examining the reciprocal exchanges between poetry, music, and popular culture, as well as broader processes of cultural transfer and symbolic legitimization, the article situates Cărtărescu’s work within transnational networks of influence and highlights the productive permeability of the boundaries separating elite and popular culture.
