Summary/Abstract: The current issue of Ekphrasis dedicated to film genres and stereotypes in contemporary cinema, television and streaming landscape(s) is connected with the previous topic, entitled “Age and Ageing in European and World Cinema(s)” (Ekphrasis 2/2025). While their respective areas of interest diverge, the two subjects are related. Some of the articles in the current issue also originated as presentations at the conference “Age and Ageing in Anglophone and European Cinema(s)” (3-5 September 2025, Cluj-Napoca, Romania)1, where scholars were invited to engage with the topic of ageing in the context of film studies. With film genre history and theory evidently contained in both the conference, and the Ekphrasis 2/2025 CfP, the introduction of the issue observed that “[f]rom the perspective of genre theory, the topic of ageing once again holds a prominent position, influencing the change of plots, stereotypes and iconographies to the degree that it can lead to the resurfacing, or even formation of new subgenres” (Farkas and Virginás 6).
