How and with Whom? On the Differentiation and Equalization of Cognitive Practices in Polish Academia

Summary/Abstract: Rebellious knowledge is born in collectives. The author presents it in the context of two little-studied issues: (1) the ephemerality/long-distance nature of the collective; (2) grassroots/institutionalized control of knowledge production. The author analyzes social interactions within research teams involved in art–science collaboration projects, as well as cooperation between grassroots activists and scientists employed at universities. By analyzing field notes, the article reveals the dynamics of the “collectivization” of knowledge by individuals embedded in both grassroots and formal work structures.
