Summary/Abstract: The author discusses selected aspects of Agata Bielik-Robson’s Derrida’s Marrano Passover (2022) to explain the repercussions that such a highly speculative philosophical work may have in the broader context of contemporary culture. Drawing on the experience of Jewish converts to Christianity, the Marranos, a certain concept of subjectification (the profound non-identity and enigmatic nature of the individual) can today serve as an experimental form of survival for phenomena marginalized by the new media system, particularly social media, and by identity politics. It appears that crypto-Jewish theology, radically reinterpreted by Derrida and Bielik-Robson, offers guidance for rescuing contemporary anthropology from the cultural pessimism of thinkers such as Giorgio Agamben.
