Summary/Abstract: Game studies in the Czech Republic exist the way many unique things exist in academia: scattered, polyvocal, and sustained by a few enthusiastic experts. There is no canonical syllabus, and the first formal degree in game studies was established this year (Springorum, 2025). Researchers working on games and play tend to come from backgrounds of media studies, psychology, cultural anthropology, or linguistics, each carrying the methodological assumptions and institutional expectations of their maternal discipline. And yet dissertations get written, papers published, and courses find their way into curricula.
