Summary/Abstract: This article examines Constantin Noica’s attempt to formulate a “logical salvation” of the individual, as developed in Letters on the Logic of Hermes, by placing it in dialogue with Leo Tolstoy’s The Death of Ivan Ilyich. The study argues that Noica’s philosophical project is fundamentally soteriological, aiming to secure a form of individual eternity without recourse to religious faith. By reinterpreting classical logical structures – especially the syllogism “Socrates is mortal” – Noica seeks to invert the relationship between the individual and the universal, allowing the exceptional individual to generate a new universal in which they may achieve permanence. The paper analyzes the ontological and logical difficulties of such a project, particularly the paradox of creating eternal entities within temporal becoming, and situates Noica’s thought in relation to ontotheology, existentialism, and modern philosophy of being. Ultimately, the article suggests that Noica’s “logical salvation” represents a unique philosophical response to the problem of death, grounded in creativity, language, and the generative power of the individual.
