Summary/Abstract: This article aims to reveal certain characteristic features of Christos Yannaras’ anthropology, one of the most important contemporary Greek Orthodox philosophers and theologians. Concerned with the human condition, Christos Yannaras repeatedly highlighted the distinction between the individual and the person, and respectively, between the person and human nature, consistently advocating for the relationship of love that should manifest between human beings. Christos Yannaras shows that the meaning (of the world and of life) cannot be reduced to our spatio-temporal framework, and that true freedom is only possible through the ineffable communion between the divine and the human. The Greek philosopher associates authentic life and human morality with the relational mode of existence and knowledge, meaning the experience of relationship, with interpersonal relationship being existential ecstasy. The terminology Christos Yannaras uses is largely specific to apophatic language, an apophaticism of the person, particularly distinct from the Western apophaticism of essence.
