Summary/Abstract: A deflationary theory of truth considers the concept to be trivially defined. Minimalism is a deflationary theory of truth proposed by Horwich (1998), which argues that all that can be said about truth can be expressed by the T-schema and its instances. However, the theory has its weak points. First, it cannot explain whether or how we can determine the truth value of future contingents. Secondly, it appears to face a similar issue concerning truth-bearers containing indexicals and demonstratives. The aim of this paper is to critically address these issues and argue that Horwich’s proposal for applying minimalism to utterances solves the problem of truth-bearers that contain indexicals and demonstratives. However, the issue of future contingents remains unresolved and represents a weak point of the theory.
