Summary/Abstract: This review on Ognyan Kovachev’s monograph “The Book and the Film in the Western Literary Canon. The Case of "The Decameron” focuses on the book’s methodological approach, highlighting its main conceptual framework. The notion of adaptation emerges at the core of the analysis, paving the way for the use of a series of related concepts, such as literary canon, sequence of works, reading, irony, etc. In Ognyan Kovachev’s interpretation, the concept of adaptation extends beyond the narrow sense of film adaptation. It encompasses various aspects of intertextuality and intermediality, proving to be a suitable tool for generating numerous readings of both films and literary works.
