Summary/Abstract: This article approaches D. Dorst’s and J. J. Abrams’ novel “S.” through the lens of reader response theory. Though the novel itself thematizes the act of reading, earlier scholarly literature has largely neglected this aspect of the work. The article examines what “S.” demands of its reader, how the book represents the reading process, and in what ways reader response theory should be modified to account for the additional digital material, released alongside the analysed literary work.
