Summary/Abstract: This paper examines how federalism functions to promote unity in diversity in Nigeria and Ethiopia, moving beyond prior studies that focus only on its theoretical benefits. Using a systematic qualitative approach, it compares the effectiveness of federalism in both countries. The analysis finds that Ethiopia has achieved greater success in fostering unity through federalism, largely due to stronger adherence by political leaders to constitutional principles than in Nigeria. The study concludes that effective leadership, equitable resource distribution, and robust intergovernmental collaboration are crucial for realizing the promise of unity in diversity in both nations.
